St. Milica, Princess of Serbia - Св. кнегиња Милица

Milica was the wife of Lazar and mother of Despot Stefan Lazarevic. She was a capable state leader, and an author. Her father was Jug Bogdan, famous for his role in the Battle of Kosovo, the battle in which her husband, father, and brothers all died. As her son, Stefan, was too young to rule, she ruled in his place as a Turkish vassal. She founded the monastery Ljubostinja and retired there as the nun Evgenija – Efrosinija when Stefan assumed the throne.
