We once again open our doors for everyone to come and see our beautiful church nestled in the iconic model village of Bournville.
We are one of the many churches dedicated to the medieval Serbian Prince St. Lazar and the first purpose-built Serbian Orthodox church in the United Kingdom. Lazarica was built by exiled Serbs in 1968 and their supporters in England with the exceptional help of the philanthropic Cadbury family, together with the late Sir Alfred Owen and his family.
It is evidence and a reminder of the strength and power of faith and those who came to Great Britain after the Second World War who lost all their earthly possessions, their friends, relatives and even their homeland.
View our al-secco paintings replicating the style used in medieval Serbia. Our precious relics and icons will be on display including Trojeručica, the first icon in the UK created by the medieval monastery Hilandar in Mount Athos, Greece. Meet Father Nenad and our friendly community.
Presentations explaining the background of the Church and its founding members, along with a short film on Serbian culture will all be available on the day as well as a barbecue selling delicious burgers and homemade cakes and pastries all using traditional Serbian recipes.
PLEASE NOTE – parking on the church premises will only be offered to disabled visitors. We kindly ask all other visitors to park in the surrounding streets. The church hall is wheelchair accessible but the church itself is only accessible by steps.
This day is part of Bournville Heritage Open Day where other sites of interest around the village will be open.
